ICE (Intercultural Collaboration Experiment) is a joint research project of
universities, research institutes, and research societies in Asia. The
objective of ICE is to support intercultural and multilingual collaborations
using machine translation technologies (MT). MT have been mainly applied to
written documents so far, whereas we apply them to human-to-human
communications.
In 2002, we conducted the first experiment named ICE2002.
In ICE2002, students from China, Japan, Korea, and
Malaysia conducted open source software development in their first languages
through multilingual MT.
In 2003 and 2004, we worked for various research issues
which were founded in ICE2002, such as analysis on
human mental model forward MT, design of intercultural collaboration
environment including TransSMS and TransSearch, and so forth.
In the year of 2005, we conducted several experiments once again as
ICE2005.
