Tutorial

We have organized the basic usage information in a tutorial file document that includes everything from downloading FreeWalk to constructing and modifying environments. We strongly recommend reading it.

Download (FreeWalk Version 4.0, Package: FreeWalk_V4_Intl_20051109.zip)

How to Install

! Attention !

The Install.pdf file found in the folder where the downloaded package was unpacked assumes that the installation will be done from a CD. If you download the package from this site it is not a CD install, but the install procedure is basically the same. For details please see the readme.txt file.
「FreeWalk V4 Intl Setup English」

  1. Extract the main package file to an appropriate folder such as the desktop.
  2. Execute "FreeWalk V4 Intl Setup English" file found in the selected folder after extraction.
  3. Please install according to the install wizard(Figure below).

  5. When the Wizard is finishing, download page of a Speech Synthesis Engine is opend on Web browser.So please download and install the Speech Synthesis Engine(Figure below).

Uninstall

The FreeWalk application installer modifies the following registry entries:

To uninstall, open the "Add and remove programs" from the Windows settings' control panel and individually remove each item.

System Requirements

The running environment depends on the VRML capacity for the Virtual City, Human bodies, scenarios and specially number of agents. For example, when using a simple VRML human body(see Figure 1), to display 30 agents on the Kyoto Station VRML space with the following environment:

results in:

Memory usageabout 235MB
FPS when few polygons are displayedabout 25
FPS when many polygons are displayedabout 5

(The goal is to achieve 30 FPS)

Optional libraries not included with the package (Necessary if speech functions are to be used.)
